UT-Baptist Research Park

UT Baptist Research Park Timeline

The Memphis Bioworks Foundation was formed in 2001 and began formulating a strategy to expand the existing bioscience cluster that existed in the Memphis area, and to create undisputed leadership as the environment where bioscience comes to life and to market.

From an infrastructure perspective, the Foundation began working to raise money to develop a world class research park in the Memphis Medical Center at the former site of the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Federal, state, local and private funds were raised to clear the site including the demolition of more than 1.3 million square feet of space. In 2005, this was the largest demolition project in the U.S. and was completed on time and under budget. Planning commenced to develop the site for new research space and more than $75 million in new construction has been completed or is underway. Additional facilities are in the schematic design phase and new projects are expected to start in early 2011.
